My Books

There was a time when….

I had been crying constantly. In contrast to the intense anxiety that I had experienced for all of my life in which symptoms took over like a powerful storm that launched fierce attacks, depression felt like a huge dark immovable boulder lying on top of me, suffocating me, and squeezing out every last tear that could be shed. It was on those days that I struggled to breathe, speak, leave the house, see anyone, make decisions, or just be alive. And once completely smoldered, the numbness ensued. The pain of feeling nothing hurt more than the pain of feeling anything.

“…. there is nothing here that is broken, absolutely nothing that needs fixing. You just have to remove all that’s in the way of you just being you.“

I walked out of that office that day drying my eyes and snotty nose with my coat sleeve and walked to a neighboring second-hand shop to decompress from what had just been an intense healing session.

Two books on a shelf captured my attention, both by Marion Woodman. As I thumbed through them I discovered a paragraph that felt as though it were written for me.

“A life that is truly lived is constantly burning away the veils of illusion, gradually revealing the essence of the individual… The healing of ourselves as healers has to take place first… Without an understanding of the relationship between destruction and creation, death and rebirth, the individual suffers the mysteries of life as meaningless Mayham alone…“

As I lifted the worn book closer to me, a small paper slipped out and fell to the ground. Reaching for it, my eyes began to decode the script and gel pens note:

“The good woman looks in the mirror. She changes into the wise woman witch in the mirror… She resists… If she becomes powerful woman, what will happen to her life? The powerful wise woman is her destiny, but if she steps into this power, her entire life as she has always known it, will be completely shattered. She has to hold it together. Does she stay a good woman so as not to cause upheaval? Or does she reveal herself, step into her predetermined power that may not make others happy?

Will she be exiled, or will she really be set free?”

Little did I know that this passage foretold what was to come for me….
